The eastern and western approaches to self-confidence vary greatly. In the West, confidence is a quality that is projected externally. In the East, confidence is an inward state that arises from unconditional self acceptance. The paradoxical path to self-confidence is through accepting oneself unconditionally and bringing compassion to one’s failures. I create an atmosphere of radical authenticity and self-acceptance in my presentations by even publicly acknowledging my insecurities. Rather than try to boost up my self confidence, I would look inward for what are the roots of decreased self confidence. Have traumatic wounds been reactivated? I would bring self acceptance and self love to heal my dip in confidence. It’s all in the “being”.

This comes from my personal experience back in my school time when I understood my interest in public speaking, one thing that worked out really well for me is mirror talking, practicing my speech looking into mirror. I realised that fear is in me if I can concur that, there is no fear left anywhere. Confidence is the best makeup one can wear.

- Arrase!

Record yourself and listen. Involve the participants and make the session interactive. Use keypoints and examples to remind yourself to stay on the track. Reach early and make yourself familiar with the stage or presentation area. Take a deep breath in before going on the stage.
