I think we have to show ourselves vulnerable (not weak), because from there, we can express our feelings, desires, and by being brutally honest, create something stronger. People have to feel that our message is autenthic, and the fact of not being like that, could bring ourselves consequences.

I have experienced umpteen times a power of empathy working wonders in the relationship building. Many a times people in the circuit of relationship believe that they do contribute authentically, however, their contribution is not noted or appreciated by other side. Seeking feedback and most importantly accepting it with gratitude and working on it go a long way.

When you're okay with getting feedback that helps you improve, and you actually use that feedback to do better, it shows that you're serious about getting better at what you do. This can make people trust you more because they see that you're dedicated to getting better both personally and professionally.

You want feedback that is honest so you can identify your areas of improvement. When you seek the ability to learn and take initiative you stand out among your colleagues. It is important to say: I'm sorry, I was wrong. I have to learn a lot about what you said, and things like that. Being the leader does not mean that we own the truth, so, whenever we were wrong, apologise.

Ask them to talk to folks who have worked with you before and can speak to your trustworthiness. Then of course, actually be trustworthy!

Whether it's building trust with colleague or a friend, in my experience, if I find myself in a situation where it seems as if I am "struggling to build trust" or establish rapport, sometimes, I have found one of the best things to do is take a step back. Pause. Re-assess. Make sure I am crystal clear on my intentions.
