Incentives are a great start in vendor optimization. Offering additional position distribution, tiers for giving high performance vendors first shot at filling positions or opportunities for additional business is a great way to have them focus on performance. This has to be followed-through with regular performance reviews that includes constructive feedback for helping them understand your business needs and where they are doing well, as well as, ways to improve. This also requires follow-through on your part to implement the rewards or consequences you communicate. This is harder for those niche suppliers but for the majority of your pool a well designed program will drive results!

This is key , in today’s world the focus should be more on building techno functional expert rather than just technology. In my experience leaders identifying the gaps and working in collaboration with the vendor to cover those gaps quickly would add value to the success of the vendor and the companies business
