It might be really helpful to engage in mindfulness exercises if having trouble increasing creative output when brainstorming virtually. By calming mental chatter, lowering stress levels, and improving focus, mindfulness enables individuals to participate more fully in the creative process. People can become more receptive to new ideas and think more freely without fear of criticism by cultivating a calm and present-focused mindset. Prior to brainstorming, the group can become centered and create a clear atmosphere by using techniques like deep breathing, body scans, or brief meditation sessions.

Struggling to boost creativity during virtual brainstorming sessions is common, especially when distractions and screen fatigue come into play. Here’s how to DO it: -Clearing Mental Clutter. -Enhanced Focus and Presence. -Creating Space for New Ideas. Before starting a virtual brainstorming session, try a short mindfulness exercise with the team. Ask everyone to close their eyes and take three deep breaths, focusing on the present moment. After just 5 minutes of mindful breathing, participants often report feeling more focused, and sessions tend to produce more diverse and creative ideas. A study from Frontiers in Psychology found that people who engaged in a 10-minute mindfulness practice before a creative task generated 25%.

Creativity needs a space in the heart for it to flow, not the mind. Hence any session requiring creativity at workplace requires a free space to flow...where no one judges nor defines any boundaries. Mindfulness helps calms the noise in the mind and allows the heart space to express. Visualisation techniques are more effective when the mind is calm and one can move through the creative space built in the session.

Mindfulness practices can enhance creativity by fostering a calm and open mindset. i) Take a few moments for deep breathing or a brief meditation to help clear distractions and encourage presence. ii) Set intentional pauses during the session to allow everyone to reflect and gather their thoughts. iii) Create a supportive atmosphere where ideas can flow freely, to unlock new perspectives and boost creative collaboration.

One thing I have found useful is to integrate simple practices as below, esp at the start of the session and if virtual interaction is for long hours * checking in for emotions and state as we come into session * grounding practices, deep breathing, engaging with all the senses for a few minutes *brief meditation and visualization integrated into the activities helps to come into the present moment, and stop thoughts, and judgments. with that comes mind space for fresh ideas, perspectives, and curiosity much needed for creativity
