You're struggling to boost client confidence in functional training. How can you empower them to succeed?
To instill trust in functional training, it's crucial to show clients its direct benefits. Engage with these strategies:
- Personalize the approach. Tailor exercises to individual goals to make the training relevant and motivating.
- Educate on the mechanics. Explain how movements translate to everyday activities, enhancing their perceived value.
- Celebrate progress. Regularly highlight improvements, no matter how small, to build confidence and commitment.

To encourage clients to embrace functional training, I focus on relatable outcomes. For instance, if a client struggles with daily tasks like lifting groceries, I demonstrate how exercises like deadlifts improve strength for such activities. I also make the sessions dynamic and adjustable—progressing from simple squats to more complex movements like lunges with rotation, which mirror real-life motions. Consistently tracking progress is key; whether it’s enhanced mobility or increased stamina, I celebrate each win. By personalizing routines and explaining the direct benefits, I help clients see functional training as essential to improving their quality of life.

To encourage clients struggling with functional training I point out the small wins. First, they showed up and haven't quit. They may be able to do a little more exercise this week vs last or increased weight. Highlighting that functional training and that fitness is a lifestyle. It is a marathon, not a sprint so every day a client shows up for themselves is a step in a positive direction.
