For instance, explore bulk purchasing, longer contract terms, or productivity, process efficiencies that can lower costs without cutting into the vendor’s margins. I would say both go hand in hand. Vendor relationship actually reduces cost of delivery. The better your relationships, the more work you will give to that vendor and the vendor is incentivized to reduce cost, improve efficiency & productivity thereby enhancing the quality of experience. It is like Amazon flywheel effect and that is why Amazon continues to offer better pricing and experience. There are enormous examples of this. Infact if the relationships become sour and stale if you don’t ask for innovation, better deals and deal structuring.
