Recently, my frontend engineer and designer clashed over a proposed change to improve user experience. The designer wanted a new layout for better intuitiveness, while the engineer hesitated, fearing it would push our release timeline. To resolve this, I facilitated a meeting where we discussed the trade-offs of user experience versus engineering effort. I suggested a phased approach: implementing the most critical design changes now and deferring others to the next release. This way, we improved the product without delaying the launch. In general, resolving such conflicts requires open dialogue, understanding each perspective, and finding a balance between user needs and development timelines.

Hosting regular sync meetings with open, transparent discussions allows for surfacing concerns early on and working towards compromises. Defining a clear, shared product goal ensures that both teams understand how their contributions are critical to the product’s success. Additionally, setting up collaborative tools for shared feedback loops and outlining mutual KPIs can help harmonize efforts and maintain focus on user-centric outcomes.
