From my experience, aligning engineering and design teams requires finding common ground through shared goals. Facilitate open dialogue where both sides can voice their concerns, then focus on data-driven decisions to ensure product outcomes that satisfy both functionality and aesthetics.

Recently, my frontend engineer and designer clashed over a proposed change to improve user experience. The designer wanted a new layout for better intuitiveness, while the engineer hesitated, fearing it would push our release timeline. To resolve this, I facilitated a meeting where we discussed the trade-offs of user experience versus engineering effort. I suggested a phased approach: implementing the most critical design changes now and deferring others to the next release. This way, we improved the product without delaying the launch. In general, resolving such conflicts requires open dialogue, understanding each perspective, and finding a balance between user needs and development timelines.
