Using different digital mediums is important too- using short/long form video, interactive knowledge checks, digital stickies or "parking lots", and gamified or team-based activities will get the learner involved. The process of learning must be scaffolded so there's at least one path to success, usually there are multiple, and that's where the choice of digital content shines-by providing a variety of options to learn from and create a way to display mastery.

One thing that I have found extremely helpful in this situation is to ensure that the content is engaging and relatable. So often we can teach something like database design with test data that students have no reliability too. Finding topics of interests and linking digital concepts and skills to that is the key to effective digital literacy development.

The visual nature explains easier content. Use images, step by step follow ups, short videos. Lengthy content in any format in general to be avoided, except if your audience is dedicated and will read/watch through any length to acquire knowledge.

I believe if the educator really wants to find out how much the audience knows from the topic, which is delegated via digital content, then the educator MUST ask the audience to write manually an assessment. Anything else is just for providing a grade. Finding out the level of knowledge happens best by doing or by finding out the correlation between topic points. How many students pass the exam by picking correct answer, still have shallow understanding in the topic...
