its a complex question, but ultimately rests on the terms of the concentrate payment schedule for the mine. What is the upside for improving concentrate grade cf the loss of revenue in reducing recovery cf improving tonnage throughput as at Highland Valley at possibly a loss in recovery? Ultimately the question should be to maximize the value of the resource in the ground at minimal environmental downside. Ideally the cost benefit analysis should integrate both the mine side, the transportation side and the smelting sides of the equation.

A mí me ha resultado útil iniciar con la validación de los costos, su evolución mensual durante el último ciclo fiscal para detectar altos y bajos. Que la organización siga protocolos normalizados preferentemente con registro tipo ERP. Analizar las prácticas operativas contra unidades de negocio similares, pudiera estar la organización realizando actividades que no agregan valor e incrementan el costo. También, aspectos legales con obligaciones específicas. Los costos fijos son los que deben reducirse sin menoscabo de perder las especificaciones del producto y los contratos con clientes y partes interesadas. Los costos variables deben sujetarse a control, para ir evolucionando en un programa de ajuste. Desarrollar un Zero Based Budget

En el procesamiento de minerales hay un hándicap entre la recuperación y la calidad. El punto de equilibrio depende de aspectos varios. En mi experiencia de deben cumplir al menos lo siguiente: 1. Mediciones estandarizadas y calibradas. 2. Insumos para el procesamiento (mineral, agua, reactivos) con variabilidad controlada. 3. Servicios para la disponibilidad del equipo y maquinaria conforme al lan de presupuesto ZBB 4. Procedimientos estandarizados de producción que puedan asimilar la incertidumbre del insumo con más variación (mineral) 5. Contar con un esquema de analisis de datos validado desde las muestras de exploración y las pruebas estándar que simulan anticipadamente cambios potenciales. 6. Instrumentación pertinente.

La mediciones y los elementos de control en línea contribuyen a reducir la variabilidad del proceso. Es el aspecto tecnológico más destacable. Los equipos de proceso más productivos (por tama?o o prestaciones especiales) no son tan relevante si se cuenta con los equipos previos de medición y control. Los elementos de control están basados en retroalimentación con el proceso en tiempo real. Deben ser permanentemente calibrados. Detrás de ellos hay protocolos para hacer las verificaciones y validaciones. La tecnología permite abordar los proyectos mineros con nuevas alternativas,en el tema de la preconcentración, para hacer rentable menas que antes no lo eran.
