We, VCs, make mistakes all the time. It's a hard job. When you get Nos, and you will mostly get Nos, don't despair or let it affect your motivation. Focus on building a great business, and if we VCs can't see it, it's our loss.
Start-up measures, investor's (fund/personal) perspectives/expectation is involved to that dynamic. But more than that, the personality of the founder at a start-up is really vital. The essence of focus should be/establish based on solid values mutually (what kind of personality he/she has, as an Investor what I can add value to the founder and obviously to the start-up etc.) Then, we can negotiate the project, the industry, and person's (founder of the start-up) vision.
Spear fishing!! You should study different funds and their interest areas and boil down to your target investors. Send them one page crisp content teasers which can build their interest. Try to get face to face time with them. Try to meet them at conferences or events which they are attending. Come up with creative graphics content showcasing your business growth and potential to grab their attention! As long as you have right data and business which they are looking forward to invest, all you need to do is show your presence or if required even follow them to get their attention (don't stalk them!).
