Be open to changes and embrace changes. Frequent upskilling of a project manager and the team is essential. A project manger or team members with outdated knowledge of tools & techniques can slow down entire team and business.
Don't follow trends for the sake of being trendy. That's the best way to ensure your skills aren't as sharp as they could be. Focus on the areas that don't change: budget, time, and scope management. Other things that don't change: communication, conflict, and collaboration. Explore tools and techniques, sure. But pick something and do it over and over and over again. For example, most project managers do not facilitate retrospectives with their teams. Pick one retrospective exercise and get very good at it. I recommend the four L's exercise. Add start, stop, keep. Done. You don't need 10 exercises. Another example, people want to know why, what, how, and when for all their tasks. So document that in their tickets. Make a checklist.
