Product requirement document (PRD) is a detailed document defining your product. It keeps evolving as the team keeps enhancing the scope. Any new feature, even the full stops needs to be covered as part of the PRD to ensure in longer run, anyone can refer to the document and understand how the product has evolved over time

A PRD is one that the engineers, designers and testers understands. I would review the content with the team and get feedback. The PRD is a living document. If any feature is sunset, it should be removed from the PRD too. Always have version control too.

Ensuring the creation of comprehensive product requirements documents (PRDs) was a pivotal aspect of my role in spearheading product and growth strategies at my previous stints. A PRD does not consistently stay as one document but undergoes what I call the PRD Cycle. In the first stage the PRD is but a document outlining what the intended feature, scope and functionality will be to the stakeholders. This is used to freeze the requirments and move ahead for development. The PRD with mockups, more detailed user stories, uats and other supporting artifacts added goes to the next stage i.e. Development Stage where the PRD is used by Engineering Teams to implement the feature. Post implementation the PRD can be recycled to create a manual or SOP or even become the baseline of creating product tutorials and tours which is the GTM Stage. Lastly the PRD has to be stored for further reference which is the PRD Elapse stage.

To me, the Product Backlog resembles a bustling junkyard, where shiny new ideas sparkle and discarded features find refuge for potential resurrection. It's a dynamic repository where we store and prioritize items, ensuring that valuable insights and past decisions remain accessible for future consideration and refinement.

The prioritization should be conducted with relevant stakeholders and scheduled in regularly. This could be monthly or bi-monthly depending on the phase the product is. Once prioritized, communicate the changes/movement with the wider team so as to ensure the single version of the truth is maintained.

Prioritization is based on value, urgency, and dependencies, often using methods like MoSCoW (Must have, Should have, Could have, Won't have this time) or value versus effort matrices. Start by setting objectives and understanding your audience. Select the best channels to reach them. Craft compelling messages highlighting your product's value. Organize tasks with a timeline and checklist, ensuring every team member knows their role. Promote your product through chosen channels. Finally, measure success using predefined metrics to learn and improve future launches.

I would recommend that as a Product Manager try and work on all documents simultaneously. This will allow you to see the impact of one document on another document. You are using resources to build a product. So if you are able to plan ahead and see the impact of one document on another, you would be able to more effectively utilize resources.
