A good motivational speech has one objective - to inspire the audience to take action, to make a change in their lives that could change their world. So given that the audience will remember best, the first and last thing I say, my closing story and its call to action must be heard and remembered. So what this means is that all the stuff in the middle of the speech is there to sell the audience on why they should take action (CTA)- But it is far less important than the final story and CTA. I know before I begin my speech exactly what time I need to start my closing story. If it looks like I am running out of time then I cut some of the stuff in the middle to make sure I can get to my close with plenty of time.

Open with a powerful statement or a provocative question that grabs attention immediately. Something like, “What if I told you that failure was the key to my success?” A strong hook sets the tone and piques curiosity. Strip your story down to its essential message. What’s the one takeaway you want the audience to remember? Stick to that theme to avoid diluting your impact. People remember how you made them feel more than what you said. Share a moment that evokes emotion, whether it's an inspiring breakthrough or a struggle they can relate to. Emotional stories resonate deeply, even in a short span. Share your truth in a way that feels genuine. Even in a rush, authenticity connects with people.
