Sometimes it will have horror story to tell about someone trying to be too funny and will help you avoid this trap. After all, comedians test-run their joke and material with friends before performing them on stage.

If you want to have a more professional impact while keeping humor, I would not use gifs in a corner of slides, but rather use a humorous analogy that I can thread throughout the full presentation. Instance, I can use some visual from Star Wars to illustrate struggle during the project, and by having this metaphor going on multiple situation, the humor is conserved. The metaphor is actually building instead of just being an entertaining distraction.

Be careful of whatever you choose to make funny. Be very safe in your humor choices. Stay away from anything remotely volatile, or touchy. Don't talk about sex, religion, politics, or controversial subjects. Don't make fun of others, call out others, or even point out things about other people. Make fun of yourself only. Use cute humorous pictures and slides in a presentation. Be silly instead of using off-color jokes. Don't try to be funny. Just try to be fun.

Every business has pain points! Traffic during a commute, complicated approval processes, or overflowing parking lots. Tell a funny story of trying to get to work early to avoid traffic and to get a parking spot in the front row. But you see a BMW pull into the last spot just as you turn into the lot. The next day you leave 10 minutes earlier and the same BMW pulls into the last spot again! Everyone will relate to the frustration and think about dealing with similar issues. You can always say the disclaimer 'Of course you don't have to deal with that here...' This will also usually get a laugh. You can also look for humor in other common factors in life, broken down first car, getting caught breaking curfew, or failing a big test.
