We're planning one right now and our core question is: what do our donors want/need to hear from us at the moment in time. Why do they come to us for x information? Why do they want to hear from us? Is it the right timing? All of these questions (and probably a few more) are core questions we ask before we even set a date and start planning anything. We think about the themes that we are already hearing from our donor community and think about what gaps can we fill in or help to educate them around.

Ensuring that you've started marketing at least 30 days before the event is paramount! Calling your donors, after you've segmented them, to check that they've seen your virtual event is a great personal touch. For other current donors, a personalized email would be beneficial.
