For community projects or large residential setups, mid-scale turbines (100 kW – 1 MW) are ideal. Nordex offers models that adapt to different wind conditions, while Enercon is known for reliable and innovative mid-sized turbines. Xzeres and Bergey Windpower specialize in turbines that perform well for smaller projects.

First of all turbine selection for wind power plant will depend on many factors like capacity of the plant, economics, site selection, offshore & onshore, etc. If the capacity of the plant is moderate to high than HAWTs are generally used because of high vigor and efficiency. These kind of towers have strong base. In HAWT rotor shaft is installed at the top of the tower which makes suitable for high wind speed.

The choice of model depends on various factors such as the project’s location, wind speed, and budget. The GE 2.5-120 model is ideal for low to medium wind speeds and can be used for both onshore and offshore projects. The Vestas V164-9.5 MW model is the largest wind turbine and is suitable for offshore projects. The Siemens Gamesa SG 14-222 DD model is designed for high wind speeds and is suitable for offshore projects. The Nordex N149/4.0-4.5 model is designed for medium to high wind speeds and is suitable for onshore projects.The Senvion 3.7M144 model is designed for low to medium wind speeds and can be used for both onshore and offshore projects. These models were chosen based on their efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

This type is the most common and widely used in commercial wind energy projects. It typically has higher efficiency and can generate more power compared to vertical axis turbines. HAWTs are suitable for various applications, including onshore and some offshore installations.

Based on my observations, vertical axis wind turbines do not operate efficiently and fail to reach their full capacity even when exposed to maximum wind speeds.

VAWTs have blades that rotate around a vertical axis. They have some advantages such as omnidirectional wind capture and ease of maintenance, but they generally have lower efficiency compared to HAWTs. VAWTs are often used in small-scale or urban wind energy projects where space and aesthetics are considerations.

Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWT): Less common but gaining popularity for certain applications. Can capture wind from any direction, making them suitable for urban or turbulent environments. Generally less efficient than HAWTs but may be preferred for specific site conditions or aesthetic reasons

Vertical axis wtgs have their generators at ground level and so save on the cost of structures. They are inherently positioned in the direction of windflow and so the rotors don't require to be 'yawed' into the direction of wind. More simplification! I'm quite certain that the rotor blades don't need pitching, but someone can correct me.

Offshore wind turbines are typically larger and more powerful than onshore turbines. They benefit from stronger and more consistent wind speeds offshore, but they come with higher installation and maintenance costs. Offshore wind projects are increasingly popular due to the availability of vast wind resources and reduced visual impact compared to onshore installations

Offshore wind resources are sufficient to feed the global grid several times over. End of argument. We should have atleast 2000 GW installed by 2030. Unfortunately, we're still in the early hundreds.

Offshore Wind Turbines: Offer higher potential for energy production due to stronger and more consistent winds offshore. Face challenges such as installation and maintenance costs, as well as environmental impact assessments. Growing trend for large-scale renewable energy projects in coastal regions.

The long term vision for wind turbines off shore is bright. However, emphasis should be on 600 Mega watts of shovel ready wind power projects at a very competitive price for consumers !

Assessment of local wind resource first. Measuring wind speed and direction at hub height for at least one year. One need to know the average yearly windspeed to chose the right rotor and windturbine. SWT have a rotor for a specific average wind speed. An option to locate the best place is to place the wind measurement system at hub height at the desired place of the turbine for one year and use a second wind measurement system to go round measuring wind speed at hub height at other possible places. Because there is a fixed reference the second wind measurement system gives enough data about the location within one week. There are enough wind measurement systems at a budget on the market for a fraction of the cost of a SWT.

Wind turbines, due to their variability, even on windy days, can NOT provide backup power on their own. A battery system, and an appropriately modified grid connection, will be needed to enable backup power.

It's a geography based decision purely all type of turbines is not suitable for all and also the space is a must know how important to installed. Depends we are looking for drive force or electrical energy.

(These typically have low, and sometimes negative, returns on investment.) Consider costs for installation (are you renting a crane?), permitting, electrical interconnection, conduit placement, etc.
