I begin my first career as a civil engineer who has involved in a number of mega infrastructure rail projects in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Macau, aka Greater Bay Area now and also Philippines. These are Green Transport and Infrastructure which has an impact in connecting communities. I learnt that these valuable projects could unlock the ESG potentials on implementing green initiatives and aspiration in metro transport projects. I have now transitioned into the Climate & Sustainability sector to specialize and help my clients to deliver greener projects with compliance and achieving carbon neutrality targets.

As a civil engineer passionate about sustainability, there are numerous ways I can leverage my skills to make a positive difference: 1- Sustainable Infrastructure Design: I can focus on designing infrastructure projects with sustainability at the forefront, incorporating green building techniques, renewable energy sources, and materials with lower environmental impact. 2- Water Management and Conservation: By implementing innovative water management strategies such as rainwater harvesting, greywater recycling, and sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), I can contribute to conserving water resources and mitigating the impacts of droughts and floods.

I’m going to reinstate the CHP, make use of this, it can have LTHW & essential generator power to the hospital as resilient usage!

I feel, Civil Engineers can make huge impact as regards to sustainability. They are the ones who use large natural resources. Few basic things which can improve the sustainability: 1. I'm lucky to be working on some projects that embody the principles of circular economy. I live and work in a city that peaked in population more than 70 years ago, and there are many old industrial buildings which sat unused for decades. We're currently working with developers to repurpose century-old factories and warehouses as modern commercial, residential, and educational centers. These projects require alot of research and understanding of the old city infrastructure. It's very challenging, but at the benefits are three-fold: stopping the decay of historic architecture, creating a vibrant public space in an economically neglected urban area, and accomplishing it all without removing a single acre of forest or farmland.

Use local contractors to assist with the activities. Also ensure local contractors are trained to uplift them. We would then try and include them in future projects

As Civil Engineer, for sustainability in construction, we engineers can make a difference in several ways. At the designing stage, try to use natural lighting and ventilation which reduce electricity, rainwater harvesting, and maximize the use of solar energy. On the other side at the construction stage, utilizing green materials, proper construction techniques, reducing construction material waste, and proper construction waste management. However, it is our responsibility to raise awareness about sustainability in construction and its impact on the environment, which is the cherry on the cake.

The greenest infrastructure is perhaps the one that already exists. Restoration and maintenance of our built environment is an enormous market, and always will be.

I agree with the idea of restoring and restructuring existing infrastructure focusing particularly on groundwater resources. In recent decades many people, organisations, governments... Have resorted to tapping into the groundwater resources for drinking water as such many boreholes have been drilled in rural and urban centres and this exposed some of the aquifers to pollution. As a civil engineer I would encourage solarisation of the existing diesel powered boreholes . Discourage drilling of new boreholes in areas already saturated with boreholes but rather repair and rehabilitation of existing borehole infrastructure upgrade them to solar powered water systems for communities.
