Maintaining emotional resilience during busy times is essential, especially in high-stakes environments like media and emerging technologies. Leaders must cultivate self-awareness and emotional regulation to navigate stress effectively, as these skills not only enhance personal well-being but also foster a positive organizational culture. By modeling emotional intelligence, CEOs can inspire their teams to remain focused and adaptable, ultimately driving productivity and innovation in an ever-evolving landscape. Remember, emotional resilience is not just about enduring challenges; it's about thriving amidst them, turning potential conflicts into opportunities for growth and collaboration.

Staying emotionally resilient during peak work periods starts with managing your energy effectively. Prioritise tasks by focusing on what’s most impactful and delegate where possible. Use time-blocking to create dedicated periods for deep work and schedule short breaks to recharge. Practice mindfulness techniques, like deep breathing or meditation, to stay grounded amid stress. Stay connected with supportive colleagues or friends who can provide perspective and encouragement. Maintain healthy habits like regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and quality sleep to bolster your mental and physical stamina. Finally, remind yourself that this intense period is temporary, and focus on celebrating small wins to keep momentum and morale high.

Being prepared is the best answer. When you expect peaks, prepare. Ensure you have the correct product/tools to get the job done. Make sure you are well staffed or in a space to handle all the comes your way with little to no distractions. I used to run a drive thru window for a major fast-food chain. Even through bar rushes at 2am, with 3 people on staff, no less than 10 cars in line at any moment... we successfully ran a two-minute wait time. It was due to knowing that those who just spent quite a bit at a local club or bar would want inexpensive, hot, and yummy food. We kept a running stock of the hottest selling items and learned when to cut back on dropping fresh when the cars slowed. It worked well. Plan for what frazzles you.

Start with the expectation (strong belief) that peak periods will occur. One of my favorite methods is Covey’s four quadrants (Eisenhower matrix) in his classic ‘seven habits of highly effective people.’ It’s the second habit, “put first things first,” that divides potential workflow possibilities, and designates one quadrant earmarked to be empty for these times. This quadrant is always and ideally earmarked for unexpected emergencies.
