You're overwhelmed with multiple writing projects. How do you stay organized and focused?

Prioritization is the key. However, the question is how to achieve it? The best method is to design a priority worksheet. Just write down the list of your writing projects. Keep good space between them. Design a mind map for each project. Then break it down everyday. Spend equal time on each project. If you are done with it early, relax. Do not rush to the other project.

When managing multiple writing projects, prioritizing tasks is essential. Begin by listing all your tasks and deadlines. Each of my writing projects, after listing them in priority order (based on deadlines), is then categorized according to goal. Goals include, word length, completion date, and main focus of the writing project. I then set my personal goals, such as 2,000 to 4,000 words per day, complete the cover design on a project, do research on X numbers of projects (X depends on priorities).

I start with small and manageable tasks at hand, if some project is urgent, start with it. Keeping eye on the bigger picture or end goal will keep you motivated.

Cognitive thoughts sketched in my head, attached hooks to my soul and ropes to my fingers, the illusion like a dragon I controlled in my existence, the words followed against the screen when I started writing, a phrase on the other side of the writing process, when the concept gets its form I see it clearly, I see that it is colours, details, I recognize all the circumstances and the coordinations.

If I want to work on multiple writing projects I find that having set days where I work on different projects to be very useful.

Time your micro tasks. For example, you have broken down your project into different phases like blog writing ginto stages like research, outline, writing, and editing. Set how much time you'll be spending on each phase. An estimate could be something like this: Research: 3 hrs Outline: 1 hr Writing: 5 hrs Editing: 2 hrs Block this time using your Google Calendar and tracking the time spent with Toggl Track. It will help you avoid the time creep and stick to a specific time frame you need to complete the task in.

This is the best way to go around it. Without effective time management, nothing will be done. Have a schedule calendar if need be. It might sound cliché but it's been saving lives since 1900. Place difficult projects in the early hours of the morning or when you feel refreshed the most Arrange the rest accordingly. Be disciplined enough to work with the schedule. Before you know it, everything is fixed.

Time management is critical, especially when working on multiple projects. I do macro and micro time management. For example, I usually wake at 5 am, and my day goes something like, wash and brush teeth, exercise - 40 minutes; check emails and set up writing projects on my computer - 45 minutes; breakfast and watch the morning news - 30 minutes; work on projects - 1 hour; 2-mile walk with wife - 1 hour; work on writing projects -2 hours. From noon to 1:30 is lunch and me time. Then I work on writing projects from 1:30 to 4:30. I teach an online graduate course, so except for 1 hour for supper and evening news, 4:30 to 9:30 is carved out for online class meetings, one-on-one Zoom meetings with students, and grading papers.

When working on several writing projects in parallel, plan your work according to the stage of each project. For any given day, choose only one project that requires a long time of undivided focus, such as writing a good first draft. Schedule that in your day first. Then, use the remaining time to slot smaller tasks around it, such as revising another text, creating an outline, brainstorming ideas etc. These tasks can be completed in a shorter time, and they allow you to regain your focus and energy.

I'm a huge advocate of keeping your desk clutter-free, especially if you work from home. Keep your documents and notebooks in a document holder and have a minimal setup with fewer things on desk. It will help you focus better. It really works for me?

Don't underestimate the power of caffeine and a closed room with no distractions. If you find yourself easily distracted, consider playing white noise in the background. See if background music serves as a good stimulant for you. Also, keep yourself hydrated.

I've found writing is more free flowing when you're comfortable. You just need to get your details down on the page. You can refine them in professional voice later. If you're not in a good mental environment, your work will show the same.

'First Things First', 'How Important Is It'?, are the questions I first put to myself for any task. So listing the projects, the deadlines and the time allocation to each project proves effective. Jotting down key points and breaking it down to smaller size, gives a sense of direction and retains focus. One project at a time policy avoids multitasking, stress and poor performance. Sitting in a cool, calm environment, if possible close to nature with handy materials avoids clutter saving time. Using an Excel spread sheet with timelines and charts to measure progress may prove effective and boost confidence

When there are multiple competing writing projects it’s important to track timelines. Try using a one-page “tickler”dashboard in excel and use red yellow green coloring on your spreadsheet to identify place in each project lifecycle. Use notes in your excel boxes and color code. Red is due now, yellow is caution coming due soon, and green is you are good to go nothing due. This simple method is so helpful for even the most complicated projects. You stay ahead in the process by always having in view your trusted “tickler” excel spreadsheet. The tickler guides your work for the day, week, month, year or years. (You can use Google sheets as well). Stay ahead of your multiple competing projects by staying organized with your ticklers.

As a tester, I need to test the application itself. However, it is a good practice to be familiar with automation tools like SOAP UI, because, for me, I was able to perform some tests with few clicks instead of spending few minute simulating the same operation in the application itself. Also we must not forget the "Inspect" option in web browsers that opens the developer tools, where we can tract the API calls under "Network" tab, console outputs to see if there are some errors that prevents the website from working properly.

One strategy to assist in staying organized is to use a pocket folder for each project. Notes about the topic, brainstorming ideas, and any progress on the project goes in the folder. Anytime you are ready to work on that project, you merely have to grab the appropriate folder (titled on the front) and you can review what has been done, then get to work.

In my opinion, being too organized can also be harmful for the mind. The feel of compulsion will not make up for an effective task. Rather, a day can be fixed for the task but not the time. However, if you have to do some 5 tasks a day fix time for the 2 of them which are your priority for the day. Then , next day the remaining could he priority.This is tried and proven.
