Naval architects are ship designers and are generally not familiar with the working conditions on the ships they design.Normally the difference arise with naval architects as their focus is on giving maximum space for the cargo for commercial considerations in their design while compromising on the ergonomics and that causes immense inconvenience to people working on ships and staying in uncomfortable cabins and working in cramped work places. The solution to this issue is to make it mandatory for naval architects to go on a long voyage on the ships they design to understand the ground realities and that can help them to integrate a good balance between commercial compulsions and ergonomics in their ship designs

Mutual respect is crucial. Focus on common goals and try to convince on the practical aspects impacted by the design. Try to reach a mutually beneficial design.

When I find myself at odds with naval architects on vessel design, I focus on fostering open dialogue to find common ground. I start by actively listening to their perspectives and understanding the rationale behind their design choices. I then share my innovative ideas and explain how they can enhance functionality or efficiency. By encouraging a collaborative brainstorming session, I aim to create an environment where we can explore both traditional and new approaches together. I believe that by valuing each other's expertise and being open to compromise, we can merge our ideas into a design that meets both technical requirements and innovative goals.

There is not a successful design if you don’t take in account the people who will work on it and the passengers or cargo the ship is design for. Each naval architect should have in his team an experience Master an experience chief engineer an experience hotel manager and the opinions of a lot of guests if we are talking for passenger vessel. In cargo vessels this part is easier. They should take in account the comfort of the crew and also should give the maximum space possible for the crew’s free time and entertainment.

The naval architect must meet the vessel's flag state and society's requirements. If the change order does not effect regulations then it is a mere matter of cost. Shipyard's charge a premium for change orders so plan well ahead.
