If I were a manager in an unfamiliar industry, the first thing I would do is to talk to a few clients and find out what it is that they require from the firm/industry. The next thing I would do is to have a conference with my colleagues who interface with the client. And I'd raise issues and/or concerns that had come up during the conversation that I had had with the client earlier. That would really bring me up to speed and if I'm not wrong I should soon find myself involved in "intimate" interactions with my colleagues that would ease me down into the groove in which I need to find myself in the new industry.
