You're a new manager facing power dynamics in the organization. How can you build credibility effectively?

In my experience, people are always wary of the new person - and this is more so pronounced when you're in a leadership position. My recommendation, build a consensus early. Identify the decision makers and the influencers e.g. PAs, I'd also advice that you agree on your WoW early, build a team charter, communicate often and frequently. This is additionally beneficial, because it allows everyone to set boundaries early. It allows all members of the team to feel heard, seen and valued. Finally, for the 1st 3 months (minimum) try to be the last to speak at team meetings. People open up more when they feel like you're genuinely interested in what they have to say, their experiences and expertise as opposed to telling them what to do and how.

-Trust is a main element of building credibility. Trust comes from Honest , clear and transparent communication and relationships. "Inspire trust in others" - Share your knowledge and add your value while valuing others knowledge, skills and abilities. -Be Accountable and show ownership -Always learn, Be well ahead of the curve. Your team will always look up to you.

Observe and Just soak into the system. Establish Connections on the Ground. Understand the Why and challenges. Encourage people to talk and express.

“Deliver Results.” For those of us in management roles, we all are ultimately judged on our ability to deliver results. I like the quote from author Richie Norton applies: “Credibility comes from results. Everything else is just marketing.” Our results are primarily based on the results of the teams we serve and help lead. Reinforcement is key to keep the game up, reinforce skills are repetition, applicability, and effective use of technology. Highlighting achievements of your team in company newsletters, or emails to celebrate successes will give good visibility to the individuals and/or teams. Having team celebrations will also go a long way in boosting morale, highlight the results they achieved.

Effective communication tends to be overlooked in leadership and management. Effective communication is the oil that gets the machine in motion. That is, active listening, inclusiveness of different views, acknowledging one's own skills and gaps allows for trust to build a positive team culture. Without a positive team culture there is no quality team performance.

Hey, listen, communication is super important. If you're a new manager or leader, it's the key to getting respect. You need to know how to talk to people and understand your team. If you ever come to me for mentoring, I'll tell you to start with the basics. Get to know your team, figure out how they like to communicate, and learn about the company culture. Once you know all that, you can start working on building a productive team.

Communicating your vision, norms , values and objectives in a clear ,transparent, concise and direct manner, goes a long way in setting the tone for any new manager,having challenges with the power dynamics in his or her organisation. It ensures that any and everyone know, who you are , what you stand for and what you seek to achieve.This also reveals immediately, who within organisation aligns with you and who does not. It also sets the tone for people to know how to relate to you. When this is done , the manager can now focus on performing his duties and responsibilities, having a clear idea/expectation of what he is to expect from his team,colleagues and superiors and vice versa.

Effective communication, problem solving, decision making, action planning, and execution are cornerstone management skills. Try to build transparent workplace culture, where employees understand the organization's expectations and goals, as well as their own. This clarity helps them work more efficiently. Transparency also allows for better decision-making because employees can see how their decisions will affect their teammates and the company. Being approachable is more than just a personality trait, it's a leadership skill that can significantly impact the dynamics of a team. An approachable leader fosters an environment where team members feel valued, heard, and empowered to share their ideas and concerns.

Model the behavior you expect from your team. Show integrity, accountability, and a strong work ethic. This consistency reinforces your credibility and sets a standard for others to follow.

Learn your team members weakness and strength and encourage them in the areas they're lacking, that way the work flow will steadily improved. As a manager you are meant to lead not instruct or command bearing in mind most of the staff might be try to implied age-related macular at the work place which might likely affect the job. Your team members should see you as a leader not as a commander.

The process of learning is never ending. If you are a new manager, there's always going to be growth, improvement, adversity, you just got to take it all in and do what's right, continue to grow, continue to live in the moment. Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning. Acknowledge and embrace imperfection in self and your team, as it is the spice that makes a good manager. Face your challenges bravely, pay attention to thoughts of team members and come to solution which is best way to grow and learn with your team. Cultivate a sense of purpose within yourself and team members, those around you and contribute to your long-term credibility as a leader.

When joining a new company, department, or team, my approach involves meeting individually with key contributors to understand their insights, processes, and available resources. By engaging directly with individuals and departments involved, as well as those in related roles, I aim to build relationships that enhance efficiency and incorporate diverse perspectives. Additionally, I conduct independent research and revisit our discussions over time to foster trust and strengthen these relationships.

When you join a new company you have to learn from everyone in the company, whether they are your boss or the intern. They'll know more about the business than you. Once you're settled you can then bring your ideas in, and start expanding your own learning within the role

-Be very soft and courteous in dealings. Now, Power dynamics may be resulting because of top management change which further may be happening because either a new owner bought the company or low profits or both so try to do and give the best analytical and proof-based advice to grow the company and profits as much as you can in your seat while being very polite and very courteous to other management. Please understand that a company exists if there is profit and that is the main job of all work. The management should guide it sensibly, ethically and while being very customer-friendly and keeping all kinds of physical work-related and policy-related ergonomics in mind.
