As an intern, your interaction with senior stakeholders will be limited unless you are in a small organization or a very flat one. You only have a limited time to make an impression, and interactions can be high stakes in terms of getting a callback. Seek the guidance of your mentor and buddy in terms of who to reach out to, and how. It's ok to be bold, but you also want to be respectful. The senior stakeholder won't really be giving you day to day oversight - think of them as ways to learn the history and culture of the firm, for career advice, and as potential mentors if you receive an offer. Do the work to understand what each of them is responsible for and their career history so you can ask relevant questions.

See if they take the bait and offer to help, connect you to someone, or provide advice. 4. Show appreciation - follow up with a note, say thank you.

As an intern, you won't be tasked with difficult tasks such as breaking bad news or communicating a complex new initiative. The #1 thing here is posture and confidence. Make eye contact. Have an open demeanor. Show you are actively listening. When you speak, be concise, brief and have a point (don't drone aimlessly). This way you come across as confident, engaged, and smart. It will pave the way for future conversations. You are just planting seeds, not building skycrapers.
