A negotiation is not an all out war. Do not assume the other party has bad intentions because that will get into your head. Be willing to walk away from a negotiation. I like the tip in Chris Voss' book in Never Split the Difference. "How can I accept XXX when YYY?" Using a phrase like this, you can explain why you cannot accept certain offers which would include what the boundaries are.

?? State Your Objectives: Be clear and direct about what you want to achieve, ensuring there’s no confusion about your goals. ?? Seek Mutual Benefit: Focus on finding a solution that satisfies both parties, showing that you’re considerate of the other side’s needs while still standing your ground.

When you're in a negotiation, it's crucial to assert your needs confidently yet respectfully. 1. Start by being clear about your goals and what you're willing to compromise on. Use "I" or "We" statements to own your position, like "I need" or "We prefer," which keep the focus on your and your team's needs without sounding accusatory. 2. Stay calm and composed, even if things get heated. It's also important to listen actively to the other party - this shows respect and can help find a middle ground. 3. Keep an open body posture, and use positive hand gestures. Remember, it's not just about getting what you want, but finding a solution that works for both sides.
