You're in the middle of an interview. How do you know if this job is right for you?

Before an interview: I carefully read the job description, list out key points, and match them with my experience. Then, I prepare a brief introduction that highlights how my skills fit the job description. This allows me to be clear, direct and result oriented.

When evaluating if a job is suitable during an interview, it is essential to consider the alignment between the company's values and your own. Additionally, assessing the job responsibilities, growth opportunities, and work culture can provide valuable insights. It is crucial to ask thoughtful questions to gauge if the role aligns with your career goals and aspirations. Remember to trust your instincts and intuition when determining if a job is the right fit for you.

Few things i will look out for is to ask questions about, 1. Organisation culture: This is very important because it can help me put in perspective how it aligns with my personal culture. Organisation culture has a direct effect on the day to day running of business. 2. Employee Wellbeing : Employee are the most important assets of any organisation. If there are programs in place to ensure general employees wellbeing. 3. Customer Centre: For me, it's always people before profit. Putting in place programs that prioritize good Customers relations and satisfaction 4. Social Responsibility: The ability to an organisation to be able to fulfil their corporate social responsibilities is very important to attract top talents.

While interviewing I ask probing questions about the company's culture and work environment. I ask why the manager enjoys working for the company and in their specific role. These questions provide insights into the atmosphere I'd be working in and help gauge if it aligns with my preferences and values. Additionally, I reflect on whether the job will bring satisfaction and fulfillment to me. Does the work align with my career goals? Will I find meaning and purpose in what I'll be doing? Last, I always trust my gut. By paying attention to how I feel about the job overall. Do I feel excited and energized about the opportunity? My gut feeling never steers me wrong.

As a Recruiter, I always advise candidates similar to how you prepare for a date is the same way you should for an interview. It’s a two way street when it comes to questions. So always do your research ahead of time, come with at least 2-3 questions to ask, they can be around work life balance or company culture etc. To me it just shows genuine interest about the company and role you’re interviewing for.

A few years ago, I was interviewing for 2 different roles at the same time. The first one made me wait for 30 minutes after my scheduled interview time. During the interview the founder spoke endlessly about his success and how much he has achieved. He made it very clear that his view of his employees were as money generation tools, and not as human beings. I went to interview with the second business, and the 2 founders as well as the HR Director, stayed behind after hours to accommodate my schedule. They took time to get to know me, asking about my favourite restaurant, what I like to do outside of work (and not in a 'I'm pretending to care' way). People often give themselves away in the WAY they talk and act. Make sure you listen!

Listen to how they speak about growth and ask questions about downsizing. How do you decide when to make cuts? How do you decide who gets cut? Company direction change how do you protect your workforce?

With the new norm of virtual interviews, it is important to show positive body language in your interview. Things like nodding your head in agreement, sitting up straight, smiling with your eyes, and engaging as much as you can through the screen to show that you are interested.

It's important to remember the interview is a two way street. Both sides of the table evaluating the other. I'm big on reading the energy in the room. I try to measure stress levels, openess to new ideas, willingness to embrace the natural flow with ability to realign as needed. On the other hand I'm keen on observing their perspective on working with me. Are they as excited about this role as I am, are they excited about my skills and experience, are they embracing my personality. These are some of the things I focus on when interviewing for a role.

My perspective is based on the interviewer. Do they enjoy the company. Does the company mission align with mine. Are they on the right trajectory? Does the approach in the interview process align with the rest of the team. It's a multitude of variables that come into play, that help me make the decision if I should carry on with the organization that I'm in front of.

Before going to an interview, commit to first being honest with yourself- who you are, your abilities, and your boundaries. Do your research about the culture. If during the interview, you find the conversation difficult or feel tension in your body, recognize that it may be more than nerves. Don’t force your sale on them, allow them to sell to you. The right job will make its way to you, and patience is key. Be. Yourself. You are lovely and skilled!

One of the most important things to learn as a candidate is how to present yourself professionally in a way that is still authentic to your personal self. If you aren't being transparent about your expectations or your work style, how can you really evaluate if a company is right for you?

Uma dica importante é se conectar com outras pessoas colaboradoras da empresa que está buscando oportunidade.

It's so important to be yourself in any interviews, try to be confident but it's also natural to feel very nervous. If you are nervous before your interview, it's not a bad thing to say it at the beginning of the interview so they can give you some grace and they will always appreciate the honesty. Don't try to provide answers to a question you don't know, they will spot this a mile away and it's okay to not know everything - use these as development and growth areas.

Be Yourself, always. Do not copy anyone. Be original. Why? Simply because this gives authenticity and builds trust. When you present yourself honestly and genuinely, interviewers are more likely to believe in your abilities and trust your character.

-Pay attention to how the interviewer is treating you. -Pay attention to how the interview is going -Ensure there is alignment between the both of you. -You feel that you can be yourself. -The offer aligns with what you are looking for. -You see yourself working there. -If you get a strong feeling or your higher power is telling you this is where you are meant to be next

It is important to remember that interviews are a 2 way street. Whilst it's an opportunity for an employer to see how you fit against the role and company, it's also an opportunity for you to interview them and make sure it is what you want also. A lot of people forget this aspect of interviews, but it's okay if the position isn't for you - be honest! The worst thing you can do is go silent on a potential employer as you never know who you will come across in the future.

Trust your gut!! Do you have excitement butterflies during the interview where you can picture yourself doing the job? Do you have a deep sinking feeling the more the interviewer talks? If you felt like the interview was a casual convo with a friend and you leave feeling happy, then that is a good sign. If the interview does not take the entire time allotted, pretty good chance it has not gone well. The role has to feel right for you along with being aligned with your career goals, salary, benefits, growth, flexibility etc. Always remember, sometimes you don't get a job you were NOT supposed to have and there is a better opportunity out there. Always consider and review an offer for a role - just the renumeration is not always the best thing to consider - what other benefits are on offer e.g. flexi working, off days, training, personal development, family or personal time

Before accepting an offer, carefully read through the offer letter to understand the terms and conditions, including salary, benefits, vacation time, work hours, and any additional perks or incentives. Consider the potential for growth and advancement within the company, including opportunities for professional development and career progression. Assess the work-life balance and don't hesitate to seek advice from mentors, peers, or career counselors if needed.

Be brave. That is the starting point. Be confident. That is the only process Be Authentic. That is the biggest success factor. You would know, you are a human, your gut feelings are natural!

Any good interview process will have time for you to share your fit and experience alongside time for you to ask questions, so being prepared to examine the interviewers is critical. Remember should you take the role the people you are meeting will likely be the people you spend a lot of time with. Maybe 40 hours a week for weeks, months or more likely years. So its critical you trust your feelings and intuition; how do you relate to the business, their purpose, your team, the roles responsibilities and the person who will be your boss. If it doesn't feel right, listen, your gut is telling you something you mustn't ignore.

The gut feeling and overall culture and vibe of a company will likely be felt within minutes of your arrival. From how you are greeted to how the interview actually starts will be very telling. If you're feeling comfortable and content, you might be meeting your new employer! In my 30+ years of life, I can guarantee that trusting my gut instincts have never led me astray. For added measure, come prepared with several questions you can ask the employer that they don't typically get asked. One of my favorites is, "Why do you stay with this company." The interviewers response will be VERY telling of how the company operates. Interviewing isn't scary. Be YOURSELF! They don't have one of YOU! Show them what they are missing.

I think this is the most important part to consider. By asking probing questions and listening intently, you should gather quality information throughout the process to help determine if this is the right fit for you at the right time. Always trust your gut!

There are time when you feel this will work - whether it be a good rapport with the hiring manager or other staff there, the thought of being able to work at that organisation or even if you feel it is the right move for you career wise

In the middle of the interview you'll already feel a vibe, a sense of whether or not this is the company or opportunity for you. If you're on the fence, considering asking at least one of these questions to the hiring manager and/or panel to help you decide whether or not it's the role for you (assuming you already did your homework): 1. What is it about this company that makes you want to stay? 2. If I were to do everything listed on the job description to the best of my ability, what might I be assigned that's not already listed on the job description? 3. Why is this role open? 4. Since the pandemic things workplace culture has shifted significantly - how has this affected the company and how has the company overcome?

Maybe I'll get pushback on this, but knowing whether a job is a good fit or not is not a function of good networking or relationship-building. Because the point of building relationships is not simply to get one job or another. The job may indeed not be a good fit -- and that's okay. But that ALSO doesn't mean that the interview itself is a waste. Because you've now presumably achieved what real networking IS about: access to a continued dialogue. Even if that interview doesn't result immediately in a job at that company, it may well lead to another opportunity later on. Be gracious about the time the interviewer took to speak with you and communicate that you're happy to consider other opportunities in the future.

I think that if a job fits your core competencies then it's probably a good fit. Especially if it's a good work environment with people you think you will get along with. Supportive leaders are also very important and something that I always look for in a job.

How does the interviewer make you feel is also important. If you feel comfortable and there is a good rapport that is a good sign of what it might be like to work there. If you feel completely undermined and questioned then that’s often an alarm bell that things may not be great there.

Here’s what else to consider:- -Research the company on various platforms like Glassdoor. -If the job responsibilities are vague or keep changing during the interview, it indicates a lack of clarity. -Assess whether the company offers room for advancement. If there’s no clear path for growth, it might not be the right fit.
