The biggest issue for mentees is understanding the role of the mentor and hence their role too. Good mentors will get you to focus on the issue and point the way to a solution that works. They are not coaches unless you have made it clear you want a coach and a mentor. Once you establish the rules it should be a great relationship!

As a mentee focus on meeting your goals and your progress vs asking the mentor to offer you a job or referral for a job. The mentorship relationship is a great opportunity for you to learn and develop your skills through trials and errors facilitated by guidance from your mentor. It's also an opportunity to develop trust in the mentor which can pave the way for a future job reference. But you'll have to earn the mentor's trust in your skills and abilities to face obstacles and solve problems first.

As a mentee in a business development,it's very important to be curious,inquisitive to know things in your work environment especially in your team. So questions need to be asked if you wanna learn,understand & get clarification if, any. Asking questions shows your curiosity, interest & initiative to learn. Relativamente ao programa de mentoria, é preciso o mentor n?o assumir que o mentorado deverá seguir o percurso de outros mentorados ou do próprio mentor. Por outro lado, o mentor deverá perceber em que medida o mentorado nao está a implementar algumas das orienta??es acordadas. Fourth common mistake you are making as a mentee in business development is not giving feedback to your mentor. Now feedback is the key as both the mentor & mentee know where they are heading to. Now if a mentee has lot of questions, doubts,apprehension, opinions,concerns or difficulties,it should be brought to the attention of the mentor to be addressed rather than keeping quiet. It helps to improve quality, effectiveness & satisfaction of the mentoring process. So therefore it is very essential to give feedback to your mentor time to time & on regular basis. Setting expectations of what is expected, mentor can do the needful for achieving the desired goal.

I would say, not taking full advantage of the opportunity. Unfortunately, there are always some mentees that are not fully engaged. These mentees come unprepared to meetings or cancel appointments often at the last minute.

Come prepared with a set list of questions to ask and vet with your mentor each time you meet. This will help guide the discussion. Also remember to update your mentor on the progress you have made and that you are appreciative of their time and support.

I learned a valuable lesson from a high school math teacher I had. I had failed a test and he wrote "come see me." The teacher had office hours. I didn't see him the first time. We had another quiz where I performed poorly. Again, "come see me." This time he asked me to stay after class. And he told me, "when I put "come see me" on your test, it is an opportunity to receive help. I get paid whether you fail or not. I see something in you and would not be insistent if I didnt." I went to his next office hours. As a mentee, if you don't take advantage of learning from your mentor, whatever you can glean, you're doing yourself a disservice. They're gonna get paid anyway. Biggest challenge for unseasoned sales people is managing their time and activities. Sales is a numbers game.. Approximately 1/3 of the opportunties you work you cannot win (competitor is incumbent, competitor has family or other peraonal connection to customer, etc) approximately 1/3 you vannot lose.. and the final 1/3 you have to fight for, and if you close more than half, then you are successfully selling.. So you need to identify the ones that you’re likely to win and the ones you will likely lose, not worth the ones you’re gonna lose suck up all of your time so that you cant properly pursue the third that are up for grabs.
