Once you have researched the company and gathered all the facts make a 3 column chart for yourself. In the first column put the knowledge gained about the company. In the second column put how this aligns with your core values & experience. In the third column put how you could give added value to the company whether in a fresh perspective or further support. Use this to be ready to discuss how well aligned you are for this position to support their missions, challenges and needs as an integral part of their team.

it may sound basic but try to get a good nights sleep a few days before the interview, put some time aside to exercise but most of all ENJOY it! Try not to let the pressure get to you - if you're able to relax the discussion will go much better!

A lot of candidates try to “memorize” answers to questions they anticipate will be asked. What I highly recommend instead is to master 3 stories of success and at least 1 story of dealing with adversity. This way, you can use these stories to respond to any question that comes your way. The best part is you won’t sound “rehearsed” because you are simply narrating a genuine experience. Remember that stories reaonate more than facts or figures. Good luck!

I would say in today's hybrid world, if you are doing it remotely, be sure to have a clear /neutral background, webcam of high quality, good microphone and internet connection.

Have a look on the company website and see how people in the firm are dressed in either images of team activities or head shots of the management team. Then match the clothes you wear for the interview to mirror these....

Hopefully, you’ve prepared beforehand. Then, the best thing you can do to switch your frontal lobe on is to calm the nerves. Cyclic sighing is a great tool to help with that!

I have found that slowing everything down from the moment you wake up until the point of the interview to be incredibly beneficial. Do everything slower from brushing your teeth to walking. Also listening to calming music has an incredibly positive impact. The reason I make this suggestion is that by slowing everything down, including your speech, you can become more thoughtful in that extra (split) second you have given yourself. Of course, if you need more time to consider how to reply it is always an idea to ask for the question to be repeated or seek a clearer understanding of what they are actually asking you. This gives the brain more time to engage which will result in a far stronger/more relevant/more appropriate reply.

The box breathing technique is a technique used by Navy SEALs, police officers, pilots, and athletes to get their nerves under control in high-stress situations. It can be used before an important conversation, keynote presentation, or high-stakes negotiation too. The technique is simple. Inhale for 4 seconds, hold it for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds, and hold the exhale for 4 seconds. Repeat the process a few times, and you should feel a sense of calm return to your mind and body. The effects of this breathing technique are numerous and positive. A simple search of "box breathing effects" on PubMed or Google Scholar will return enlightening publications for the scientifically curious.

Even if it's your dream employer, remember it is still a two way process. It's just as important that the organisation, culture and job role works for you and fits with your values. It's very common to ignore red flags in the recruitment process because it's your dream employer. You push them to the side because you really want the job. But that only comes back to bite in the long run. Ask questions throughout the process and talk to past/current employees to ensure it is the right place for you.

An interview is always a two-way process, one that assesses your suitability to be able to do the job they have, but one that also allows you to assess whether your cultural fit and future ambitions will be met. In person, getting a 'feel' for the organisation is key and whilst they might really want you, you have to make sure it is where you want to be.

Remember, the more you know about the company and the role, the more confident and prepared you will feel during the interview. This preparation not only helps in answering the questions but also in making a well-informed decision if a job offer is extended.

Get there a bit early and watch the interactions of other staff - says a lot. You get to see whether they respect each other and how they talk to each other.

1. How well do you know the company? If not that well, get to know as many of the moving parts in the interview that you can! How well do you know the sector? What can you learn beforehand? 2. Be prepared to be the expert on yourself in your area. Know your career narrative super well, know your data, and have some about your specialism too. Always have a point of view. 3. You are not an imposter. The more you believe in yourself, the easier it is to put yourself forward and start asking for more.
