As a Mechanical Engineer, I believe we can develop our leadership by understanding life's of ground-level people who works in shop floor (under pressure), Every individual belongs to different region and has different experiences. This is a typical dilema. Science and management requires very different skills and while I believe that many engineers (myself included) can become great leaders. There is a saying which goes like this: "Be careful to not let your best scientist become your worst manager." Unfortunately this happens all the time and the current structure of most companies create this problem. A Principal Engineer should make as much as a Sr. Director or above. A Fellow Engineer should be at a VP pay. Unfortunately in most companies one has to go over to management in order to make more money and that is not a good setup for the Scientists or Engineers who love their jobs and are great at it.
