You’re managing a remote team. What are the best ways to build camaraderie and trust?

One of the challenges for remote teams is that many of the embedded opportunities for informal communication we rely on in the workplace don't translate to the virtual space. When leading our all-virtual team, we hosted weekly "water cooler" meetings-- a space designated for folks to connect beyond the logistical elements of our work. We didn't explicitly ban work-related discussion, but we made clear the goal was connection not furthering the work and we tasked each member of the team to rotate through co-creating that space with us.

In a team conflict situation it is important to follow a process. Start by addressing, clarifying, involving, solving, monitoring and following up with all the team members. HR has to be dynamic,observant and impartial. Being cautiously non judgemental and patient is paramount.

Very basic step towards building trust within team is to ensure that they see you as one of them and not someone sitting higher or lower. This will enable comfortable evironment. Additionally, what one can do is to have some time free for casual connect individually or in small groups to have non-work-related discussions so that you can understand each other better. Hosting virtual team events like Secret Santa, Best Cooking, Celebration of international Women's day, Guess your team mate based on hints etc. (Endless ways to connect socially with lots of fun) where you get to know about each other personally. This has helped me big time while managing big teams remotely.

The work balance is essential.A hierarchial orders based work leads to fatigue setting up. A break within daily routine weekly routine always ?eeps team spirit high. Such breaks must focus on friendly interactions, a game which builds mutual awareness and bonding within team

There are many remote ways to keep social interaction alive - regular voluntary coffee chats are just one way, another is hosting virtual team events that use one of the many platforms (like virtual city tours, virtual jam sessions etc) to make it more fun. Also team lunches can work in a virtual way, just setting a theme and everyone orders (or cooks) the same type of food. Beside regular business channels. chat channels for "off topic" should be available

When remote, it's easier to second guess your work because feedback may not be as frequent or as organic. In remote scenarios regular check-ins on weekly basis are imperative, but also take time to immediately either provide feedback via chat or directly after a call if you see that it is needed. Always offer an "open door" policy as well in the remote world, allowing people to contact you whenever they need and be ready to react quickly (and be just by scheduling a call at a later time)

Delegar tareas en otros profesionales del equipo es muy interesante, de todas formas podemos caer en sobrecargar a quien siempre está dispuesto, por ello debemos planificar bien cómo se distribuyen según sus características y sus habilidades y aptitudes. En las reuniones es importante que al finalizar se deje claro que el correo está abierto a todas las ideas que se han manifestado en la reunión e incluso si apareciese alguna después, tras la toma de decisión realizaría otra reunión grupal, exponiendo los resultados de cómo se resolvió la situación, la decisión e incluso dar un feedback positivo de que todo lo aportado se hubiese utilizado o no fue muy importante, y queda como conocimiento para futuras ocasiones.
