Yes. It's a challenge. And no - there's not a magic formula for it. It's a lot on the manager to take care of the collaboration. Overlapping time - very important. You must use that time wisely. Mutual boards / tools - Ensure you are all on the same page. Even if your American team never talked to the European team, they should know what each other is doing. So have a suitable platform for project(s) visibility. Work independence - I think this is key. When each regional team can work independently with minimum strings attached to other regions, it will make the local team much more effective and happy. And lastly - My personal advice: Don't be lazy. Go and meet the teams. IN-PERSON. Don't have everything be managed virtually.
