1 Set clear expectations

Before you give feedback, make sure you have clear and measurable expectations for your QA team. As I'm a supporter of self-management, the team conceives the most appropriate methods according to the needs of the moment (internal and external parameters) and the resources available. I routinely present the results of the team's work. If we're not meeting any targets, I encourage the team to rethink how they perform.

To provide effective feedback to my QA team, I employ the SBI (Situation-Behavior-Impact) model. I highlight specific instances (Situation), describe observed behavior, and explain its impact on project outcomes. For instance, "During the last sprint, your thorough bug reports (Behavior) significantly improved the product's stability (Impact)."

When we talk about Feedback - Be specific, timely & constructive. Always Start by highlighting the observed behavior or action, providing concrete examples to illustrate your points. Try focusing on facts rather than personal opinions to maintain objectivity. Offer feedback as soon as possible after the event or behavior ensuring its relevance & impact. I feel feedback shouldn’t be one direction like manager to team member. It should be 360 degrees from peers, subordinates and superiors & cross functional team. Usually people hesitate to take negative feedback, we should open to take feedback from whole group for your individual development in terms of behavioural and functional. Feedback provider shall give constructive feedback specifically instead of generic statements, then recipient will make a specific action plan for his/her individual development plan.
