Managing multiple sports events with conflicting schedules can be tricky, but prioritization comes down to understanding the core objectives of each event. In my experience, I start by evaluating the scale, importance, and deadlines of each event. By ranking them based on urgency and impact, I can create a clear action plan. It’s also key to identify which tasks can overlap or be delegated to trusted team members, allowing me to focus on critical areas without spreading myself too thin. I’ve learned that flexibility is essential. Sometimes, despite careful planning, things change last minute. In those cases, I stay adaptable and reassess priorities in real-time, ensuring smooth progress without compromising the quality of any event.

‘Conflicting schedules’ - is by far the most common issue and the first problem experienced by those in a managing positions working in such large, multi-sport, multi-venue events. The key to success is to analyse and understand the objectives in relation to the timeframe. Whether as a manager we operate in one area (e.g. security) or oversee a number of departments we are always working in teams. Proper competence management, delegation of tasks and exemplary work with daily schedules allow us to move forward with a project. Of course, this is not easy and there is no single recipe for success. However, by being disciplined and delegating tasks as well, we can complete a project successfully.
