I take the same approach in a business environment as I did coaching Rugby. You have - Piano players v Piano movers. You have to have the piano In position before you can play it! Each team member has their own unique skill sets, strengths and weaknesses and can react to motivation and encouragement in different ways. Take the time to focus in on the little details about your team to show you pay attention and care. It goes a long way.

In my experience a team motivation is not dependent on any single parameter. You being leader need to understand team members appropriately and this requires continuous feedback- direct feedback is preferred. Break the barrier, let people speak and encourage speak up policy. Align your mode as per nature of team colleagues. Leave protocols. Appreciate openly…this is one of the best recognition people need. Financial recognitions are additional tool and people accept but open and vocal appreciation creates a culture where people own tasks. The other wonderful recognition I have seen is to bring performers on platforms where they are seen. People love to be recognised and known. Have tried and observed wonderful achievements.

I believe it's important to explore and identify training and development initiatives for both individual and team growth, along with wellness programs and recognition awards. Additionally, fostering a culture that encourages the team to acknowledge partnerships, achievements, and progress is essential. And most important understand what motivates each team member and identifying effective strategies to create a comfortable environment where they feel valued and appreciated.

To help morale or improve starts with recognition. As you talk to each employee, call them by their names and make it personal as it's a one-on-one conversation. If the job allows it, get familiar with what each employee does, give thanks and appreciation where needed.

The difference between and “average” team and a motivated/cohesive team are highly influenced by these below: 1. Definition of roles? 2. Task assignment/management? 3. Direct and open communication? 4. Respect for diversity of ideas? 5. Workplan execution? 6. Readjustment of the work plan 7. Team and individual recognition?

Clear and realistic goals can only be achieved if the team buys into the target. Planning is key for all jobs and planning does not stop when the job starts. Assess and reassess the plan and targets to ensure that its something that can be achieved. Manage processes and not personalities. Lead by example be fair but firm. Dont lead in a way that there is fear for the team to do their job. Praise in public, argue behind closed doors. Make a team feel part of the discussion regarding goals etc.

Recognition that caters only to your top performers will fail to gain buy in, engagement, and a positive competitive culture to motivate your 2nd and 3rd quartile performers to meet and exceed the goals set. It's also important that there's a way for anyone to achieve the recognition by removing any subjectivity. Recognition programs that allow for levels of reward based on performance but also based on amount of improvement on the journey to the top makes all the difference in driving and motivating your team to keep working hard, encourage each other, and respect the process.

The Bible says. " For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?" Be sure to communicate clearly all goals, objectives, and plans. Don't help anyone fail because you assume everyone know what is expected, rather that tell them again.

I agree sincere when rewarding team. Team will know if our recognition without sincerity. This will ruin team motivation. Team will highly motivate if recognition in sincerity and thankfully without word

In a team context, prioritizing quality over quantity means focusing on the value and effectiveness of contributions rather than merely the number of tasks completed or members involved. A smaller team that is highly skilled and cohesive can often achieve better results than a larger team with less expertise or cohesion.

Companies need to STOP rewarding mediocrity. It sets the precedence that those who give 110% and no recognition will end up leaving. If you want to retain quality, you must reward/recognize quality.

In my experience it shows that quality recognition greatly boosts team performance and project management. Sincere, specific, and timely feedback not only uplifts the team but also enhances their work quality. This leads to more effective project management and prolongs the success of projects, especially at their end stages. Essentially, acknowledging each team member's contribution creates a positive and productive work environment.

In my experience, when the team has fellow team members that are matching their determination and morale for the the tasks at hand, everything seems to go smoother. It helps when other team members know that they have that type of support from their fellow coworkers.

In my opinion , this is the most effective way to acknowledge & recognize your team members. It is important to be genuine and subjective. Informal recognition can involve shout outs in team meetings,thank you notes,over a group work chat, verbally in person or even a phone call . It goes a long way and creates good bonding. Formal recognition can be in the form of shoutouts on a group all team email, bonuses, opening doors to growth opportunities, certificates etc. It is extremely essential to practice these in order to create a positive morale , a feel good factor and a drive to perform.

Informal recognition is something that is overlooked by too many leaders. Formal awards, and the pomp and circumstance they can involve, are nice, but a kind word, remembering to say "thank you" or "good work" can be much more impactful. You have to be authentic and consistent with it though. People will see right through a leader that begrudgingly offers recognition or is selective with their praise. I've also found with younger generations that they seem to appreciate the informal much more than the formal. They care more about being valued and being a part of a cause more than they do about flashy awards or ceremonies. Personal connection is more meaningful to them than a once a year recognition ceremony.

Peer- to-peer and informal Manager recognition to associates who go above and beyond in demonstrating the company values is always an easy way to start.

Balancing formal and informal recognition is crucial. Formal methods provide tangible acknowledgment but can be competitive and costly. Informal recognition is spontaneous and personal but may seem inconsistent. Tailoring a balanced approach to our team's needs will create a comprehensive program that fosters appreciation effectively.

One thing I have found to be very helpful when recognizing members of my team is to focus on the their specific achievements rather than making it generic. The feedback becomes more valuable to the team member when they know that you as a leader are aware of their accomplishments. Recognition both formally and informally can be done in group settings and individual one on one sessions for continued positive reinforcement whilst boosting morale.

The employee self-assessment, done annually or semi-annually, can be a powerful tool for learning how to motivate individual employees. The insights on what actions the employee considers valuable must be balanced against those actions the organization values. However, leaders should avoid using any employee’s identified “most valuable contribution” as a whipping tool for seeking criticism unless the employee is genuinely a bad apple. In almost all cases, employees fail because leaders fail to train, communicate, or set standards that allow their teams to succeed. Real leaders determine how to capitalize on their team strengths and simultaneously reward team members. Poor managers attempt to bend employs to their will.

I don't exactly agree with this. Soliciting feedback about your recognition program somehow defeats its sincerity and purpose. The better way to do this is to see whether their performance improves or at the very least, remains consistent, observe their behaviors whethe they are exhibiting new and more positive ones. These indicators determine whether your recognition program is effective or not. It's not about whether the program is more meaningful to them. What's more important is that they strive to become better versions of themselves at work because they know their efforts and accomplishments are being recognized.
