From a Data Analytics perspective, the most critical skills I've seen in someone who makes it far in the field are less about their technical / hard skills (those can be acquired quickly by the right person anyway). Rather, the skills that are harder to train & inculcate tend to be hunger, willingness to get their hands dirty, first-principles thinking and a flair for a step-by-step mathematical / programmatic approach to solving problems.
