When I began working in branding 15 years ago, I was lucky to learn from the best branding pioneers in my country. They had UK experience in Wolff Olins and founded their agency in Lisbon (MYBRAND). They had tons of management experience in big companies, and both of them also taught management and marketing at the best management schools. I've been fortunate enough to find 2 mentors in my career who almost feel like saints with how patient and understanding they are about my learning process, style and my individual personality. Is it weird that in addition to all the above... I also look for TRAJECTORY! A mentor who has accomplished alot in life is great... but I still need someone relevant and intouch with today's movements and trend setting. Someone still making moves and strides even if terrain has shifted. Eg. If the mentor is retired from active corporate work, but has taken up a teaching position or guest lecturer at University or Grad school. I'd still be open to learning from their learning as one day, that would also be me, when I age out of the corporate world.
