ArcGIS as one of the leading GIS software, QGIS as its freeware counterpart and Global Mapper as a Swiss Army knife when it comes to spatial data. Enthusiasm and passion are crucial to advancement. Think about what promotion is in the workplace - you are promoting people to more responsibilities and thus to leadership. A key piece of leadership is motivating the troops. Someone who is enthusiastic and passionate is going to be capable (typically) of motivating people, but they are also going to be in a good position to show people in other divisions why what you do matters. Passion wins over people who have little knowledge about something - that's human nature. Infomercials capitalize on that - who do they get to sell their products - enthusiastic and passionate people.
