You're in a Lean Manufacturing management position. How can you demonstrate your leadership skills?

Most likely a Lean Leader will be expected to lead through influence, not authority. Are you patient, kind, listen, flexible, and set the example to be most receptive to feedback. Are you willing to accept gaps as teams progress to better. Are you willing to give all your knowledge to others so they can become the best version of themselves and solve their own problems.

In my view, key is to understand the voice of business(VoB), voice of customers (VoC), involve relevant stakeholders to know their inputs/feedback and prepare the draft version of Vision, Strategy and Toolkit for successful implementation. As a next step, talk to cross functional heads for their feedback & alignment, and form passionate team and then kick start meeting with internal team. Cruical factor is full visibility of projects/activities execution, appreciate quick wins and support the team to eliminate roadblocks.

The important aspect of the Lean manufacturing leader is to identify the opportunities in different areas such as the Voice of the Customer, the Voice of Business, the Voice of Process, and the Voice of People. Secondly converting those opportunities into actual savings impacting to business parameters. and finally rewarding the team for successful completion of work.

Every “leader” I have worked for, in multiple disciplines, has had a clear vision of their objective and an ability to verbalize it compellingly. This, unfortunately, is not too common, so when you do, it sticks out. Believe in the mission and show it. Encourage your team to accomplish it. People like to follow leaders, be one by leading and enabling others to succeed.

For the Lean transformation to be effective, it is imperative that the leadership of the company participates actively and visibly at all levels. Culture is formed by the actions of leaders who must act consistently with each other and with their shared vision of what they want the new organization to be. Leaders must create a supportive environment, fostering teamwork, provide clear communication, demonstrate commitment, develop common goals, shared rewards, see problems as opportunities, trust others, led by example, encourage improvements, create opportunities, encouraging, listening and responding, give clear direction, teaching, driving out fear.

Lean is a journey, not a destination, so it is important that the search and elimination of waste will become the most important team task driving continuous improvement activities throughout the system as a strategic competitive advantage that enables profitable growth, as we continue with the training and developing visible and relevant metrics focused on results and especially the most important thing is to continue training our workforce. An always concern, is our ability to keep the momentum, it is necessary to go back and refresh, making sure that we are training properly, enabling the basic elements of Lean.

To foster collaboration: Establish Clear Communication Channels Promote Open Dialogue Align Communication with Organizational Goals Provide Training on Effective Communication Foster a Culture of Transparency Utilize Visual Management Tools Encourage Cross-Functional Collaboration Regularly Review and Adapt Communication Strategies Recognize and Reward Effective Communication Identify and address any barriers to communication, such as language differences, cultural nuances, or technological limitations.

Lean managers need to adopt the scientific and psychological approach to get the results by fostering the team collaboration. 1. Identify what are the 3-5 years organization vision and mission. And help the leadership team to communicate to the lower level. 2. Make a yearly strategic objective in SQDIC and build the KPI using Hoshin kanri and communicate to the team. 3. Set the individual target to the team which is aligned with the 3-5 year goal. 4. Build the 30-60-90 days improvement road map considering strategic objectives and ongoing issue. 5.Always promote the Just Do It approach to empower the team. Ask the team not to wait for perfection. 6.Build the team of lean experts by training and certifying them to empower.

To Monitor and improve: Implement Robust Data Systems for collecting and analyzing data. Regularly share the goals, progress, and outcomes of improvement initiatives with your team Foster a Culture of Continuous Improvement Prioritize improvement projects based on their potential impact and allocate resources accordingly. Engage Employees at All Levels Use change management principles to guide the implementation of improvements. Establish Clear Metrics: Keep the focus on continuous improvement by setting new goals, celebrating successes, and learning from setbacks. Balance Priorities Address Cultural Barriers

To Improve in lean manufacturing in quality ,and cost the steps are as follows.1.Define a problem for improvement using measurements shown as line graph and pareto charts to select elements for improvement.2.Use the cause and effect diagram to analyze the root causes,then verify and validate the root causes.3.Select countermeasures to prevent the root causes and evaluate results from implementing the counter measures.4.Sustain the improvement.5.Replicate the improvement.

You can just do what you should do right using the right tools the right way in sustainable way. Don't pretend to be some one else

Meet your team "where they are". If lean concepts are new to the team, don't overwhelm the conversations with complex concepts or the Japanese terms that may be new and/or confusing. Keep is simple in the beginning. Focus on progress and results. Communicate the journey through clearly setup metrics. Use as many existing measures and terms as possible. Too much change, too fast can be a bad thing.

In a Lean Manufacturing leadership role, you can demonstrate skills by: 1. Leading by example: Show commitment to lean principles and actively participate in improvement initiatives. 2. Empowering your team: Encourage team members to identify inefficiencies and propose solutions. 3. Fostering a culture of continuous improvement: Make improvement a part of daily routine. 4. Communicating effectively: Ensure everyone understands their roles and responsibilities. 5. Providing training: Equip your team with necessary skills and knowledge. 6. Measuring performance: Use lean tools to measure performance and guide improvement efforts.

They look like the same tools as with any leadership position, with the added complication that your success in this realm depends heavily on leadership with a number of people over which you do not hold any formal authority. In some cases, like the Finance guys and the MBAs, you need to learn their language in order to "sell" them.
