You're leading a team through upskilling programs. How do you navigate time constraints effectively?

I am responsible for leading a bargaining unit comprising approximately 300 employees. It is my responsibility to serve those employees' needs, including health and safety issues, fair treatment in the workplace, and professional development opportunities with the school district, county and state union organizations. This position requires me to be current on district and state policies, along with our current union contract, ensuring that all parties adhere to all protocols. Practicing intentional time management skills enables me to effectively accomplish the many tasks that this position requires to the desired completion. This skill includes the ability to prioritize tasks properly for all parties involved.

Leading a team through upskilling programs is crucial for growth, but it can be challenging when time is tight. The key is to be strategic and intentional. Prioritize ruthlessly. Not all skills are created equal. Focus on those that will have the biggest impact on your team's performance and align with your business goals. Microlearning is your friend. Break down training into bite-sized chunks that can be easily consumed during downtime or between tasks. Make it hands-on. The best way to learn is by doing. Incorporate real-world projects and simulations into your upskilling programs. Leverage technology. There are a wealth of online learning platforms and tools available. Use them to your advantage.

1) Identify the most critical skills that need to be developed and focus on those first. 2) Choose training formats that are time-effective, such as online courses, workshops, or bite-sized learning modules. 3) Encourage learning on the job by incorporating new skills into daily tasks and projects. 4) Regularly check in on the team's progress to ensure they are on track and adjust the schedule as needed.

Lean six sigma people handling skill set and BPN Methodology approach will work best such as: # Pro's and Con's on a BAU inclined skill set: Pro's: -focused points as to with Dept highlighted skill set that will suit them best. (Tailored to fit) -cert and honors received should correspond to be able to qualify for their "Glide Path" onto a more suitable post utilization. Con's -shifting gears - can no longer apply for a lower post as this is non compliance on a salary incrementing and over qualification trigger. -learning curve prerequisites pit stop.

Clear communication is a must - it keeps the team together, moving forward as a single entity. Unclear, contradictory communication does the opposite. Some people go one way, others go another. Then all of a sudden you have nothing but chaos.

I went 4 years without a performance review. I had no idea how I was performing, if goals were being met, etc. It was chaos. Today, things are better but I still wish we had better communication to see how everyone is tackling their goals and achieving progress.

Things don't always go smoothly. It's crucial to evaluate along the way, and allow your team to pivot according to how things are progressing. Not allowing this often ensures failure!
