I found in the military that leading a team through decision-making, involves creating a disciplined yet inclusive environment where every voice is heard and valued. This starts with setting clear expectations for respectful communication and fostering a culture of mutual respect and trust. Structured meeting formats, such as round-robin discussions, ensure that each team member has an opportunity to speak, preventing dominant voices from overshadowing quieter ones. Active listening is crucial; by giving full attention to each speaker, acknowledging their points, and providing constructive feedback, you demonstrate that their input is valued.

It is essential to ensure that every voice is heard and valued. And this can only be done by creating a safe space where all team members feel comfortable sharing their perspectives. One should actively listen to everyone’s input, summarize key points to show understanding, and then gather all viewpoints. Then collectively find common ground, weighing the pros and cons of each idea.

Before you begin the meeting, set the expectations and have a planned agenda . Leaders need to make effort to ensure the team feels heard and valued . Practice active listening and good eyes contact during meeting to note if anyone wants to speak. Be focused and put all mobile phones to silent mode . Leader has to lead by example. Look out for those who have not spoken and ask for his/ her views . Allocate sufficient time to go round the table to ensure all members have an opportunity to speak up . Give positive feedback or encouragement along the way. Share the impacts of change from members’ suggestions . Thanks all members who shared their ideas , raised any concern and participated actively .

It’s essential to keep everyone on the team engaged and invested in the final outcome. Listening to all opinions is key to success, even if some may be incorrect or differ from the majority. First, foster a friendly environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts, and trust is established among team members. Second, minor opinions are often overlooked. When discussing an issue and nearing a decision, ask if anyone has concerns or sees potential drawbacks. Even if everyone initially agrees, this can help uncover better alternatives. Lastly, personal chats for small teams and anonymous surveys for larger groups are effective ways to gather all perspectives.

As a communicator and programs manager, I prioritize creating clear channels for expression and collaboration. From open brainstorming sessions to private check-ins, I ensure all voices are heard and valued. I emphasize facilitated conversations to encourage both speaking and active listening, fostering inclusivity. Storytelling is key to showing how each person’s contribution ties into the bigger picture, making them feel integral to the team's success while inspiring them. Leading with empathy and uplifting diverse perspectives are my guiding principles to ensure everyone feels heard and valued.
