It is scientifically proven that creativity is innate and genetic. Only ~1% of people can have a breakthrough (see the book Innovation Abyss). So, the best way to facilitate is to select creative people (they score very high on the trait Openness in the Big 5 personality test) and support them by allowing freedom and minimal restraints.

To encourage creativity and innovation in my team, I focus on creating a welcoming space where everyone feels comfortable sharing ideas, no matter how unconventional. I believe diverse perspectives spark the best solutions, so I encourage everyone to bring their unique viewpoints to the table. I also trust my team to experiment and find their own paths, seeing any setbacks as opportunities to learn. Supporting ongoing learning is a priority, I share new ideas and encourage professional growth. I try to lead by example, getting involved in creative discussions myself. I make a point to recognize both successes and the effort behind them, keeping the team’s motivation high and fostering a culture of innovation.

In my coaching classes, we always start by calculating every participant's Curiosity Index, which is divided into 3 spheres: personal, professional & public. I will also: 1) Encourage Open Communication: Foster a culture where team members feel safe sharing new ideas without fear of judgment. 2) Provide Autonomy: Give team members the freedom to experiment & make decisions within their roles. 3) Incorporate Design Thinking: Apply design thinking methodologies to problem-solving and innovation. 4) Offer Resources and Training: Provide access to creative tools or innovation training. 5) Celebrate Risk-Taking: Recognize and reward efforts, even when ideas don’t work out, to encourage a mindset of exploration. 6) Use AI for ideation.
