El espacio es central ya que desde el mismo se promueve una red de relaciones consigo mismo, con los demás y con el entorno. Desde la pedagogía Reggio Emilia, el espacio es un tercer educador. Una persona no se siente igual de recibida al ingresar a un espacio oscuro y hostil que a un espacio ameno. Los materiales tienen que ser interesantes, simples y atractivos para todas las personas (no centrándose en las personas con alguna discapacidad). Todo docente considera que la participación de los estudiantes es fundamental, sin embargo, la misma suele ser anecdótica y no una participación real y genuina. Invitar a los estudiantes a participar y que luego su opinión no tenga real impacto e incidencia en la práctica es una falta de respeto. Los debates en peque?os grupos son estrategias muy interesantes para que pueda cicular la palabra pero además es importante poder ofrecer otras posibilidades de expresar las ideas, por ejemplo, de forma escrita.
