It’s quite obvious to have different opinions or perspectives towards a certain topic or goal while being in a team. As this sets the discussion standards even higher and encourages to have a solution feasible and acceptable for all the possible stakeholders. It is very important to provide the volunteers with an environment to put forth their views freely without feeling restricted or worried about it. Whereas the point of being right or wrong about a certain topic/goal can be decided on a later stage after having a thorough discussion and understanding of the point of view. Acknowledging and listening to the point of views of individual member sets the environment right for embracing diversity in the community.

Recognize and celebrate contributions with acknowledgment and awards, provide support and resources through training and mentorship, and encourage collaboration and teamwork. Lead by example with a positive attitude, accessibility, and transparency, and ensure a safe and welcoming environment with zero tolerance for discrimination and clear conflict resolution processes.

One thing that I have found useful is appreciating them publicly, not just their achievements but also their efforts. As not every volunteering work can be seen on the front end but there’s a-lot of effort which is put at the back end whereas, when it comes to recognition the leaders often forget to value the back end person who puts the hardest of effort behind the curtains. So do remember to acknowledge their contributions.

Providing volunteers with ample space to present their thoughts and letting them execute the task which was their brain child would definitely make them feel more included and heard. Which will eventually lead to them understanding the value of their opinions in the team decisions. Once the volunteer feels heard and their opinions/preferences being respected, they will gradually take up more responsibility and ownership of the task/goal.
