Everyone must have a defined role, and better yet, you may need more than one role to perform certain activities, especially those activities that impact your cloud consumption. In Azure, in addition to the predefined roles, you can create custom roles that allow you to assign the minimum required permissions, and you can also create alerts so that when an activity is performed, notifications can be sent to the person who should receive them.

Distributing the roles within the team is something really important to set before starting a project. This helps the individuals to understand better their job and the assignments they are going to be responsible of. Additionally, it also helps collaboration among team members, as everyone is responsible of that part of the project related to their assignment and their role. For instance, a developer is in charge of developing the application but need to interact with the devops (to be aligned when deploying the application), with the security responsible (to verify that the application is aligned with the security policies), with the test responsible (to align the functionality with tests), etc.

As a team lead, I believe clear role definition is essential for effective delegation in cloud computing. It ensures each team member understands their specific responsibilities, which reduces overlap and confusion. This clarity not only streamlines operations but also fosters accountability and efficiency, enabling the team to better manage cloud resources and deliver high-quality outcomes.

I have seen that when there is a clear separation of functions and a problem arises, people tend to blame the problem on the person who has the other role. If you can implement a culture of collaboration, then when you have a problem, everyone is focused on solving it and not blaming each other.

Otherwise, you will have the typical scenario where the good ones are saturated with responsibilities and the not-so-good ones have few roles (it happened to me).
