I like to lean into the diversity of styles rather than forcing strict uniformity. These 2 approach works best for me: 1. Instead of lengthy style guides, I prefer minimal guidelines, focusing only on key points like br and values and messaging tone. Writers are then free to interpret the style in their own way, which keeps the content from feeling formulaic. 2. Rather than obsessing over internal consistency, I tailor content based on the audience segment it’s targeting. Not every piece of content needs to sound exactly the same because different audiences connect with different styles. By knowing who’s reading, we can adjust the voice without losing the essence of the brand.

Start by creating a "Voice Spectrum" chart with your team to see where everyone’s style fits—from casual to formal. This helps everyone understand how their voices blend. You could also whip up a "Tone Toolkit" with examples of your brand's ideal tone, so writers have a handy reference. Hosting a "Voice Jam Session" where everyone brainstorms ideas together can spark creativity and build teamwork. Try having writers swap sections to give fresh perspectives and keep things cohesive. Before hitting publish, do a quick "voice litmus test" by proofreading the content to check if it sounds like your brand. With a little teamwork, you’ll nail that cohesive tone while letting everyone shine!

There are two ways to ensure a cohesive tone when you work with multiple writers who each have a voice: 1. Run all articles through the proverbial editorial blender, creating a homogeneous sound but quite likely eliminating any clever turns of phrase or other gifts for communicating—the very reasons why you should hire someone in the first place 2. Respect the individual voices while checking them against your company’s voice, making sure they’re complementary. Having worked for a magazine where the editorial blender was put on high speed, I can assure you there are few things more frustrating for writers or more wasteful of time for editors than changing text that doesn’t actually need changing.

Maintaining a consistent tone across multiple writers is essential for a cohesive user experience. Start by developing a clear style guide that defines your brand's voice, tone, and language preferences. Effective onboarding is crucial—introduce new writers to these guidelines through workshops and collaborative sessions. Utilizing templates can help standardize recurring content, while a final editorial pass ensures cohesiveness. Encouraging collaboration among writers also helps keep everyone aligned.
