Now, tailor your resume in a way that will impress the hiring manager for this specific position. Of course, you should highlight your skills, but you should also show how you put those skills into action. Show off how you used these amazing skills to achieve amazing results. And the icing on the cake is putting numbers (quantification) to these achievements.

Why do I do this? Because my resume needs to be tailored to the specific requisition I'm applying for. With LinkedIn as my repository of experience, I can copy and paste the bullet points that are most relevant to the role I'm seeking. Relevancy is heavily weighted in ATS parsers. You can have all the skills in the world, but if you're applying for a programming job that wants C# or an art job that wants Maya, and you only have experience in Java and traditional oil painting mentioned on your resume, you may not rank highly in the analysis!

I seldom say "never", but I'll say it here: NEVER use the phrase "detail oriented" or "attention to detail" in your resume. Believe it or not, the recruiter and the hiring manager are rooting for you: they want to read your resume and see a future team member. To that effect, there is often some leeway in what a hiring manager will find acceptable. But the second you call attention to your eye for detail, you're lighting the Bat Signal for a *really* critical read. And if you say you're a perfectionist but have an incorrect preposition or wonky formatting, you'll find you're out of luck. This is not to say approach your proofreading flippantly. Edit it *like* you included "detail oriented" and let the quality speak for itself.

Figure out who you are and what you offer that is different than the other applicants. For example, I had a client interview for a position to rapidly grow a company from 100 to 500 people. Instead of saying, yes, I can do that. She said I would approach the problem this way. She was so convincing she got the entire leadership team to rethink their strategy for growth and offered her the job. It was risky because they had a different plan. Instead of becoming a "yes-woman" she pitched her way. She said it was the first time she did not tailor her resume and study hard for the interview. Refreshing.

The summary overview should never say "summary" or "qualifications" or "objective" -- instead, this should be replaced with the job title of the targeted role + 2 other keywords associated. For example, my resume says: CAREER COACH | RESUME WRITER | CAREER DEVELOPMENT EXPERT. By identifying these keywords, it immediately shows the recruiter in the 6-7 seconds of the resume review that the individual has held the job title before and has the top 2 skills to be successful in the role. Following this headline, the 3-4 sentences of the summary overview should consist of data-driven elements to demonstrate the expertise.

Think about the name of the CV document also - that can help you know what groups jobs you can use the CV to apply to (e.g., "Resume_SoftwareEngineer", "Resume_ProjectManager").
