You're in a job interview and you're asked about your communication style. How do you respond?

When asked about one's communication style in an interview, one can say emphasise on clear, concise, and adaptable communication style leading to in fostering collaboration, building relationships, and achieving shared goals. It is important to demonstrate self-awareness, flexibility, and a commitment to effective communication, which are all valued attributes in a professional setting. It also provides specific examples and experiences to support my claims about communication style, helping to validate suitability for the position.

When an interviewer asks you your communication style, he/she would be interested to know your sense of self-awareness. A few things to bear mind: 1. Be your (professional) self and candid about your style. What you say shall pretty much align with what you act. 2. Give examples. They can be work-related or personal incidents to demonstrate your communication style e.g. how you promote collaboration or resolve a delicate conflict with your communicaton styles. This would help the interviewer visualize how you would interact with your teams if they hire you. Key is to be genuine, knowing that this question does not have a right or wrong answer.

Be absolutely honest and specific. Honest because you'd be communicating daily. If you're not a fit, you're not a fit—you wouldn't thrive in that environment. Own your style; people like that and may even get influenced by it. Specific, because good communicators are self-aware. If you're not specific, you're not a good communicator. So it's important to know your style. Reflect on how you have communicated with people over the past two weeks: - Do you prefer a direct style or an inquisitive one? - Do you prefer to text or face-to-face? - 1-on-1 or group setting? - How have you communicated your difference of opinions - Ask others how you come across to them.

Funnily enough - you are communicating about yur communication - so stay honest and authentic. If you try and make stuff up it is clear as day and night. Some examples of hpw yu have been able to flex your style to adapt to different needs is a great way to show that while you may have one style you can work to meet other demands

I have found that using examples/story telling is a powerful tool at interviews as it paints a picture for your interviewer to see how you have used your skill in real life situations.. However do make sure that in sharing you remain true to the key messaging and ensure you tie it to outcomes.

Interviewing is all about building those relationships to determine the best fit - for you and the company. The entire interview should reflect your communication style. Let your positive, open, and professional communication be reflecting of the value you can add to them and their organization.
