1 Know the basics

If you want to show the interviewer that you are really interested in working for a specific company, you should definitely dig deeper than just the surface and basics. - Find information about how the company is funded, as this will help you understand the way certain decisions are made. - Look into specific projects that they are working on at the moments. - Talk to people who already work in that company - not only you can start building relationships with them beforehand and have someone vouch for you within the company if you make a good impression, but they can give you a valuable insight or a piece of information that you will not be able to find anywhere else (ex. upcoming projects, M&As etc.)

3 Relate to the role

Knowing a lot about the company is not enough if you can't relate it to the role you're applying for. You need to show the interviewer how your skills, experience, and personality match the company's needs, expectations, and culture. You can do this by highlighting specific examples of how you can contribute to the company's mission, vision, values, and goals. Make it easy for a recruiter to connect the dots. Explain to them how you can add value to their company, what will you do in your new role that will benefit the company and how. Don't think that if on your CV you stated that you have great communication skills, it is clear that you are qualified for the role. Showcase with a clear example how do you intend to apply this skill in your new role and how it will benefit the company.

4 Ask smart questions

Knowing about the company is not a one-way street. You also need to ask smart questions that show your interest, enthusiasm, and fit for the role. You can do this by asking questions that are relevant, specific, and open-ended. For example, you can ask about the company's culture, values, or priorities. You can also ask about the role's responsibilities, expectations, or challenges. You can also ask about the interviewer's experience, feedback, or advice.
