Following the leaders can sometimes be a trap. I have seen this many times in my career. Many people become famous by discovering something in their career, become famous and then live of the discovery for the rest of their career. If you only follow the famous leaders you might be missing out on the next batch of new discoveries. Great way to find new trends is to read the commentary sections of journals, the editors often write 1 page highlights of science they think is important.

The best way to learn about the latest happenings is from the ones making them! Choose a field of interest, within the domain of Biotechnology and look up the people working on the latest advancements in it. Read about their works, the problem they aim to solve, their motive, their methods, etc. You are sure to spot trends that indicate the nature of innovation that is leading the way forward!

Learning from leaders in the field is a valuable approach to stay updated on cutting-edge research. Attending workshops, seminars, and events provides valuable insights into cutting-edge research. Directly asking questions enhances the learning experience and should be prioritized. However, it's essential not to blindly follow leaders without understanding their research thoroughly. In biotechnology, not all research leads to innovation or is relevant. It's crucial to maintain a critical perspective, especially in today's rapidly evolving AI-driven world. It's important to approach them mindfully and consider current trends. Striking a balance between staying informed and critically evaluating information is key.

Perspective and good perspective is key in a word with an increasing amount of information. Either digitally or in person, following opinion leaders and cutting edge specialists in their field, is a way to get access to the most important information and updates. Additionally, having a good overview of competitors and the front-runners helps to stay ahead of the curve. With all digital sources available, it is easy to find interview or podcast of key leaders in each field.

Following a leader is certainly important but not sufficient. Following and developing an insightful collaboration with any partner in a beneficial purpose, through a knowledge exchange to build interesting or innovative proposal project, is in my view laudable.

The entire field of biotechnology is so fast that even a subfield probably too large to explore in detail. In careers in industry most people specialize heavily within a subfield and become true experts in something very particular. I find it is best to let your career and opportunities guide you instead of artificially trying to become an expert.

Biotechnology is a big field, especially for me as a bioinformatics student. It covers computational methods, molecular biology, computer science, and statistics. There's a lot to explore and innovate in this area. To find our interests, it's crucial to understand the field well. Reading recent research papers from the last four years is helpful because technology is advancing quickly. The best way to learn is by working on projects and models. That's where you get hands-on experience and knowledge. Do not learn and start, start and learn!

Biotechnology benefits from AI innovations, making significant improvements in the field. For instance, in bioinformatics, there's vast potential for creating AI models to predict protein structures, DNA sequences, and more. I'm currently working on a model to predict gene functions using NLP. Biology students may find programming challenging at first, but eventually they will learn. Given the current circumstances, it's essential to learn topics like machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing. Building an AI model would be crucial skill in the future in Biotechnology field.

Trial and error is an excellent learning method, as it encourages us to think outside the box. One of the great advantages of biotechnology is that not all research necessarily require a physical laboratory for exploration. Numerous tools and resources are available for virtual experimentation, AI/ML plays crucial role. For students, collaborating with professors or peers can be particularly rewarding. Platforms like LinkedIn offer a great way to connect with like-minded individuals. I have personally experienced the benefits of this approach by sending invitations to discuss my project with individuals related to the subject matter. Surprisingly, there are people to help, just seek the help.

A lot of resources are available at a very low cost or for free to develop biotechnology. As for example databases and tools to do computer aided drug design, or very low cost complete lab kits to start your biotech start-up in your garage.

From my own experience, I have found newsletters to be an incredibly effective means of keeping up to date. This effectiveness stems from the author's or company's ability to gather and consolidate information from various sources into a single, accessible location. Podcasts are yet another avenue for staying informed. For those interested in biotechnology, starting with podcasts like Biotech 2050 and Biotech Hangout can be quite enlightening. Participating in online events also offers significant benefits, as they provide opportunities to engage directly with researchers. My choice to pursue Bioinformatics was inspired by an event in Mumbai, where I found pivotal answers. Taking advantage of these platforms is crucial.
