To support new employees in a shifting culture, prioritize clear, consistent communication. Start with a structured onboarding that explains both the company's evolving values and current goals, giving context to the changes underway. Encourage open dialogue by establishing safe spaces for questions and feedback, and pair newcomers with mentors who model the desired culture. Use multiple communication channels—like regular team check-ins, updates, and feedback tools—to ensure everyone stays informed and engaged. Reinforce key messages frequently to help new hires feel aligned and included, fostering their confidence to contribute and adapt within the evolving workplace.

To integrate new employees into a shifting culture, we need to meet them where they’re at. We need to provide consistent and two-way communication. Start by pairing new team members with cultural ambassadors, who embody the values and the aspirational culture. These ambassadors can help guide new team members through both the practical and cultural aspects of the business. Involve new team members in cultural rituals early on, giving them ownership and a sense of belonging. Open dialogue is crucial, create regular check ins for them to share their observations, ask questions, and voice concerns. This empowers new employees to help shape the culture as they integrate into it. We want ‘culture add’ not ‘culture fit’!

I work for a high growth consulting organisation so we are tackling integrating new employees into a changing culture head on, it can definitely bring some communication challenges. We start by creating a welcoming environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts. Regular check-ins are key; they give new team members a chance to ask questions and share their experiences. Pair them up with a buddy or mentor to help bridge any gaps, and offer another safe space outside of leadership. It’s important to celebrate the unique perspectives that new employees bring while ensuring everyone is on the same page about our evolving culture. Building those connections can really help everyone feel included and engaged.
