Virtual labs provide a risk-free environment for students to experiment and learn, enhancing their understanding of real-world applications. Integrate self-assessment tools that allow students to evaluate their own understanding and progress. This promotes metacognition and encourages students to take an active role in their learning. Implement digital badges and micro-credentials to recognize and validate specific skills or achievements. Design open-book assessments and use analysis tools to evaluate how students approach problem-solving and apply critical thinking skills when using reference materials.

For instance, adopting remote proctoring ensures exam security in online assessments, while data analytics allows instructors to tailor feedback based on individual student needs. It depends! What kind of assessment are you utilizing? Kahoot and similar tools can be very good for formative assessments in class. If it is a summative assessment, I suggest giving a try to any platform that allows you to provide feedback, a detailed assessment report, and various question types to cater to the needs of all learning styles.

While the use of A.I. for assessment can be innovative, we should be cognisant that the tool must be fit-for-purpose. In this sense, it must support the chosen type of assessment and its criteria. It should also abide to the principles of assessment (for high stake exams). At the end of the day, the purpose of assessment is to gather evidence that the learner has achieved the intended learning outcome. The tool, A.I. or otherwise, must be suitable in enabling this.

Es necesario partir de la noción que el/la instructor(a) tiene sobre lo que representa evaluar. El primer paso requiere trascender la idea de que la evaluación es sinónimo de calificación. De ésta manera, se comprende que evaluar es un proceso, un continuum dentro de la ense?anza y el aprendizaje. Y en éste sentido, a través de las tecnologías se encuentran recursos que posibilitan potenciar y evidenciar el recorrido de los(as) estudiantes por las actividades formativas (más que sumativas). Además del impacto en motivación, innovación y engagement, usar recursos provistos por la tecnología, vislumbra un panorama macro, a través del cual el o la docente pueden orientarse para evaluar cuantitativa y cualitativamente el trasegar formativo.
